Hingham Select Board accepts $1 million gift from Barbara Hood's estate. The board unanimously approved two gifts from Barbara Hood, who passed away in November 2025 at age 90: $500,000 to the Historic Commission and $500,000 to the Conservation Commission. In separate votes, the board approved three special alcohol licenses for community events, including the Summer Send Off at World's End and Tavern Night at The Old Ordinary, as well as an entertainment license for Comella's Restaurant.
The board also approved a $169,900 electrical contract with Bright Light Electric Company for work at the South Shore Country Club, made four board appointments, and recognized longtime Town Moderator Thomas O'Donnell on his 100th birthday.
