Select Board approves transfer station fee overhaul
Select Board · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Hingham Select Board more than doubles projected transfer station revenue, to about $542,000 a year, while raising the mattress disposal fee from $20 to $75. DPW Superintendent Ashley Breuer said the facility loses roughly $27,000 annually on mattresses alone and hasn't updated fees in over six years. One resident countered, "why do we need to make profit on people's mattresses?" warning the hikes burden seniors downsizing.
The board also signed a $390,000 demolition contract with Pasquazzi Bros., Inc. for Building 12 at Bare Cove Park, approved bid documents for eight new pickleball courts with added sound-mitigation scrutiny, and voted to join a 13-town intermunicipal agreement for a regional household hazardous waste depot in Hanover. All votes passed 3-0 among Chair Liz Klein, Julie Strehle and Bill Ramsey.
