Select Board Approves $79,000 Emergency Sewer Repair Contract in 12-Minute Session

HINGHAM — February 20, 2025 — Hingham Select Board approves $79,000 emergency contract to repair failed sewer pump station. Meeting with only two of four members present, Chair Julie Strehle and member Bill Ramsey voted unanimously February 20 to authorize the agreement with Williamson Electrical Company Inc., doing business as Williamson Pump and Motor, for replacement of check valves, gate valves, and piping at the Bradley Woods sewer pump station at 26 Bradley Woods Drive. Town sewer official Russ Tierney told the board the components, possibly original equipment from the 1960s, had left the station with a single functioning pump; if that pump failed, the town would face pumping and hauling raw sewage. The $79,000 cost — covering roughly $35,000 in valves, $30,000 in piping, and $14,000 for a new flow meter — will be drawn from three existing budget accounts with a combined available balance of about $300,000, requiring no new appropriation.
