Hingham Select Board Awards $537K Traffic Signal Contract for New Public Safety Facility

HINGHAM -- September 10, 2024, Hingham Select Board approves $537,475 traffic signal contract tied to new public safety facility opening. The board unanimously authorized Town Administrator Tom Arthur to sign the agreement with IW Harding Construction Company Incorporated, funded through state Chapter 90 funds, for a new Route 3A signal at Lincoln Street that must be operational before police and fire occupy the building. Building Committee Chair Bob G. and owner's project manager Paul Callis reported substantial completion is now targeted for April 15, 2025, two months ahead of the original June projection. The board also voted 2-0, with Bill Ramsey recused, to authorize the Recreation Commission to pursue a preliminary Community Preservation Committee grant application for 12 dedicated pickleball courts at the Carlson Field Complex, with total construction costs estimated between $1.5 million and $1.6 million. The board proclaimed September 22 as Veteran Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day, with veteran services director Keith German citing 22 veteran suicides per day nationally and honoring the family of Hingham Marine Sergeant Matthew P.
