Hingham Select Board Approves $1.7 Million in FY26 Year-End Reserve Fund Transfers
HINGHAM — July 7, 2026 — Hingham's Select Board voted unanimously to approve $1.7 million in fiscal year 2026 year-end reserve fund transfers at its July 7 meeting, coming in roughly $1 million under the $2.7 million available after Annual Town Meeting. Acting Chair Julie Strehle and member Bill Ramsey — the only two members present — approved twelve separate reserve fund transfers presented by Assistant Town Administrator for Finance Katie Dugan, who noted that schools came in nearly $600,000 under their special education forecast and that a $296,234 state fair share supplemental payment reduced the snow and ice transfer request from a projected $1.1 million to $85,428. The largest single transfer was $216,766 to legal services, which Town Administrator Tom Mayo described as a "borderline structural" annual deficit the board may revisit in the next budget cycle. Workers compensation drew concern after coming in $150,000 higher than last year at $360,922, prompting Ramsey to volunteer as a Select Board liaison to examine longer-term management strategies with Town Counsel Kevin Feeley. On a brighter note, police overtime required only a $15,537 reserve fund transfer against an earlier forecast of up to $200,000.
