Select Board Delays Private Way Plow Policy
Hingham Select Board delayed a new private way plowing policy to November 1, 2027.
Select Board · Meeting of October 20, 2026
Hingham Select Board delayed a new private way plowing policy to November 1, 2027. The board voted 3-0 after residents on Quincy Avenue, Steamboat Lane, Tufoli Court and other private roads raised cost and safety concerns about new 12-foot width and 14-foot clearance standards; DPW Superintendent Ashley Breuer said roughly 34 of the 72 private ways the town currently plows would otherwise lose service. Resident Debra Robin said a private quote for plowing her three-house road ran "$6,000 for the season," while Quincy Avenue resident Donald R.
Campbell, 95, said the rollout felt like it was "sneaking it up on us." The board also approved a $300,000 rock salt contract with Eastern Minerals Inc. at $76 per ton and a $198,800 change order for Lincoln School Apartments facade repairs, bringing that project's total to $394,800.
