HINGHAM — The Hingham School Committee reviewed roof replacement estimates for two elementary schools that have risen well above 2025 projections. Angela Thedinga, representing the 2025 School Building Committee, said South Elementary's total project budget is now $8.2 million, up from a $5.4 million 2025 Town Meeting estimate, while Plymouth River Elementary's budget has grown to $16 million from $6.1 million, driven largely by newly discovered structural reinforcement needs. Member Matt Cosman said he was "trying to reconcile the 5.4 versus the 8.2 total project budget," and Thedinga noted the original figures came from a consultant's estimate meant only for "order of magnitude costs." The committee also heard that a high school heat pump system could cost $15 million after tax credits, approved $6,750 in Hingham High School PTO grants, and unanimously approved revised school handbooks and the 2026-2027 meeting calendar.
A special town meeting on the roof funding is set for October 29.
