Hingham Schools Adopt New Policy on Police Visits
School Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Hingham School Committee adopts a police-access policy and lands a $100,000 state grant for classrooms. Members voted unanimously to approve new Policy ACL, addressing how schools respond to civil law enforcement visits, after the state set a September 1 compliance deadline "with little notice," per member Ali Anderson. Director of Facilities Matthew Meehan detailed a plan to replace a failing 10-million-BTU high school boiler with four smaller 3-million-BTU units by mid-December, after a rented backup option was priced at roughly $120,000 per heating season.
The committee also approved a $100,000 Fiscal Year 2027 Fair Share Education Earmark Grant for classroom voice amplification systems and heard that districtwide enrollment rose by 26 students since May, driven by real estate turnover near East Elementary, now the district's largest school at 547 students including preschool.
