Hingham School Committee approved a three-year contract for its custodial and maintenance workers' union. Member Carrie Nee presented the deal with the Hingham Education Association's Unit C, running July 2026 through June 2029, which layers hourly raises for custodians, leads and maintenance staff on top of 3 percent annual increases while staying within the district's 3.5 percent budget target. Select Board Chair Liz Klein joined the unanimous roll-call vote.
The committee also approved a roughly 5 percent increase in preschool and Kids in Action fees for 2027-2028, updated PSAT, SAT, PACT and AP exam fees, and seven revised school policies on a second read, all unanimously. Superintendent Katie Roberts reported total district enrollment, including preschool and after-school participants, at 3,633 students. Plymouth River Elementary's principal won approval for a new 2026-2028 school improvement plan centered on the district's Bridges math rollout.
Chair Jen Benham called the custodians' role in schools "essential."
