Hingham Select Board unanimously backs three school roof articles for town meeting
HINGHAM — March 18, 2025 — Hingham Select Board backs three school roof design articles but leaves building committee question open. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend favorable action on warrant articles for schematic design and feasibility studies at Hingham High School, Plymouth River Elementary, and South Elementary ahead of the May 2025 Annual Town Meeting, with Superintendent Aisha Roberts confirming the language had been reviewed and cleared by Massachusetts School Building Authority legal staff. A fourth article, Article VV, which would expand the charge of the 2017 Hingham School Building Committee to oversee the projects, was not voted on after Vice Chair Ray Estes told the board the committee had not yet discussed the request and was uncertain whether its members wished to continue in that capacity. Town Counsel John Coughlin flagged that the three approved roof articles already name the 2017 committee as the directing body, creating a language conflict if the committee declines. The board also unanimously approved a $143,900 contract with Waste Equip Manufacturing Company LLC for two transfer-station trash compactors with a projected 20-to-25-year lifespan, and granted a one-day all-alcoholic beverages license to the Hingham Sports Partnership for its Comedy Night 2025 fundraiser at the Loring Theatre on April 6.
