Hingham Select Board approves mattress recycling deal, emergency club repairs

HINGHAM — April 8, 2025 — Hingham Select Board approves $171,000 in service contracts and honors a retiring Army lieutenant colonel. The three-member board — Chair Joe Fischer, Bill Ramsey, and Liz Klene — unanimously authorized a two-year, up to $100,000 contract with Tough Stuff Recycling LLC for mattress recycling at $31 per unit, despite an acknowledged $11-per-unit deficit against the $20 resident drop-off fee, with board members signaling a future fee review. The board also approved an emergency restoration contract with Airare Environmental Services Inc., not to exceed $71,447.64, to repair the South Shore Country Club's restrooms and hallway after a March 23 sewage backup; a $25,000 deductible falls to the country club, with the insurer covering the rest. Sgt. James Brady and Sgt. Matthew Lucas were appointed liquor enforcement officers through October 31, filling an overnight coverage gap. Fischer closed the meeting with a tribute to Ramsey's retirement from the U.S. Army Reserve after 28 years, including active-duty service in Iraq and Afghanistan and a tenure as chief judge of the Social Security Administration's Boston Hearing Office.
