Hingham Youth Basketball's boys travel evaluations get underway this weekend, kicking off tryouts for grades 3 through 8.

HINGHAM --

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Hingham Youth Basketball announced that boys travel basketball evaluations "start this weekend," with sessions running at Derby Academy through October 9 for grades 3 through 8. According to the schedule posted by the league, Grade 3 evaluations are set for Sunday, October 4, and Monday, October 5; Grade 4 for Sunday, October 4, and Friday, October 9; Grade 5 for Sunday, October 4, and Friday, October 9; and Grades 6, 7 and 8 for Friday, October 2, and either Monday, October 5, or Friday, October 9, depending on grade.

The league said tryouts are "strictly drop-off only," with parents, guardians and siblings not permitted courtside or in the gym during sessions. Players are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before their session with water, a basketball and court shoes, and the league said playing shoes must be put on inside rather than worn in from outside. Families who cannot make both sessions for their child's grade must email Travel Director Ben Levin to request an excused absence to remain eligible for travel selection.

The league said this year's outside evaluators include representatives from Tufts University Basketball, TGE Basketball, Sarah Behn Basketball, White Mamba Basketball and Middlesex Magic South, and that roster placements will draw on evaluator scores, volunteer and coach feedback, and evaluation-app data. The league noted that final responsibility for team makeup rests with Levin, and that no past roster spot guarantees a repeat placement this season.
