Hingham Youth Basketball opens girls G League registration ahead of Oct. 31 deadline, sets fall travel tryout dates.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Hingham Youth Basketball has opened registration for the Hingham Girls Basketball League, known as the G League and formerly called G.A.L.S. The league says it "provides athletes an in-town opportunity to compete, build friendships, work as a team, and have a blast falling in love with the game of basketball."

The organization is touting several changes for this season, including communication and organization tools via the Crossbar app, in-town schedules designed not to overlap with Hingham Girls Travel games, "improved gym quality and court time," referees and playoffs for grades 3 and up, weekly skills clinics called "The Lab," and WNBA replica jerseys marking the league's 30th anniversary season. Families are asked to register before the October 31 deadline to avoid a late fee. Players interested in travel basketball can indicate that interest on their G League registration; the group says "all travel players will play in the G League as well."

Hingham Girls Travel Basketball evaluations are scheduled for Monday, October 19, and Monday, October 26, at McKelvey Gymnasium at Derby Academy, with separate times by grade for grades 3 through 8. According to the league, each evaluation session runs about an hour, is a drop-off event, and includes "a handful of drills as well as short games." Parents are not permitted on the court but may watch from a viewing area. Rosters will be determined using evaluation data and coach input, with invitations to follow.
