Hingham Youth Basketball has released the full evaluation schedule for girls travel basketball tryouts, set for two Monday sessions in October.
HINGHAM -- Hingham Youth Basketball announced that Girls Travel Basketball evaluations will be held Monday, October 19, and Monday, October 26, at McKelvey Gymnasium at Derby Academy.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- According to Hingham Youth Basketball, evaluations are organized by grade and court. On October 19, the schedule runs: 3rd grade at 5 p.m. (Near court), 4th grade at 6 p.m. (Near), 5th grade at 7 p.m. (Near), 6th grade at 5 p.m. (Far), 7th grade at 6 p.m. (Far) and 8th grade at 7 p.m. (Far). On October 26, the schedule runs: 5th grade at 5 p.m. (Near), 3rd grade at 6 p.m. (Near), 4th grade at 7 p.m. (Near), 8th grade at 5 p.m. (Far), 6th grade at 6 p.m. (Far) and 7th grade at 7 p.m. (Far).
The organization says players should wear comfortable athletic clothing and clean-soled sneakers and bring a water bottle. Each evaluation session will last an hour, players will wear numbered pinnies, and participants will take part in drills and short games. Hingham Youth Basketball states players must attend at least one evaluation to be considered for a team and may not evaluate with a different grade. Parents are not permitted on the court, though a viewing area is available.
To register for an evaluation, families must sign up for the Hingham Girls Basketball League, known as the G League, and answer "yes" when asked if their player intends to play travel basketball. Hingham Youth Basketball says all travel players will also play in the G League, and it reiterated its October 31 registration deadline to avoid a late fee. After both evaluation dates, the organization says travel placements will be based on evaluation data and coach input, with roster invitations to follow.
