Hingham Select Board Appoints New Sewer Commissioner, Advances Senior Center Design

HINGHAM — September 9, 2025 — Hingham advances senior center design as cost estimate looms and new sewer commissioner is seated. At a September 9 joint session of the Select Board, Advisory Committee, and Hingham Center for Active Living Building Committee, the design team from EDM Studio and Lifespan Design Studios walked three boards through a detailed room-by-room program for the proposed 25,950-square-foot facility at Bear Cove Park, which has been reduced 10 percent in size since last year's town meeting vote while preserving the full program. Owner's project manager Dan Palott of P3 said a schematic design cost estimate is expected by the end of September or the first week of October, with a bid in hand before the annual town meeting. Select Board Chair William Ramsey asked the building committee to seek further reductions in administrative space; Advisory Committee member Jerry Calin flagged a prior custodial staffing estimate of 15 hours per week as "very low" for a building expected to serve hundreds of residents daily. In separate action, the board unanimously approved a change of ownership interest for Wahlburgers at 19 Shipyard Drive and, in a joint vote with the Sewer Commission, appointed retired physician Richard Eisen to the Sewer Commission to serve until the 2026 town election.
