Hingham School Committee Awards $336,125 Turf Contract, Clears Path for Fall Field
HINGHAM — June 2, 2025 — Hingham School Committee awards $336,125 turf installation contract and greenlights elementary therapeutic pilot. The committee voted unanimously Monday to award the site preparation and installation contract for the Hingham High School turf replacement to RAD Sports, a Hingham-connected firm, with a completion deadline of approximately August 25 — setting up a hard timeline ahead of fall athletics. Business Director Aisha Opang said the district split the $880,000 town-meeting-approved project into separate manufacturing and installation tracks to stay ahead of production schedules; the turf material was procured through Shaw via the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing vehicle. The board also approved a plan to launch a small in-district therapeutic program at Plymouth River School for grades three through five, starting with three to four students and capped at eight, after an earlier model involving the South Shore Educational Collaborative was scrapped when analysis showed tuition costs would remain even with the collaborative on-site. The committee additionally accepted a $13,260 DESE civics grant and a $70,000 Hingham Education Foundation award to expand the district's "thinking classrooms" mathematics initiative into the middle school.
