Hingham Light Plant Pulls Warrant Articles

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Hingham Finance Committee refocuses on school articles after Light Plant withdraws its warrant items. Liaison Ben detailed a 36.89 percent MSBA reimbursement rate for South Elementary and Plymouth River roof projects, while liaison Steve said the Select Board voted the same night to add $1.115 million to the high school design article, moving it from roughly $3.3 million to about $4.1 million. Assistant Town Administrator Katie Dugan said a potential $15 million federal geothermal tax credit is "direct pay" and survived recent federal cuts, but member Mary called it "like a rebate" and pressed for clarity on whether it would actually lower taxpayers' bill.

Separately, the retirement board's preferred funding option, A3, would push full pension funding to 2036 and add about $86,000 to next year's cost, versus an 8.3 percent proposed increase under other scenarios. The committee approved four sets of prior meeting minutes unanimously by roll call.
