Hingham School Committee Sets New Graduation Competency Rules, Approves Bus Driver Pact

HINGHAM — November 24, 2025 — Hingham School Committee approves new graduation competency framework and bus driver contract covering 2026 to 2029. The committee voted unanimously on all items at its November 24 meeting, adopting Policy IKF, which requires students to earn a year-end average of 60 percent or better in English, algebra, geometry, biology, and — starting with the Class of 2027 — U.S. History, replacing MCAS as the district's graduation threshold. High School Principal Dr. Bucky reported chronic absenteeism has fallen from 8.2 percent to 7.1 percent over three years, with overall attendance reaching 96.8 percent year to date, and said cell phone caddies deployed as a building-wide expectation this fall have drawn positive teacher feedback. The committee also approved three rounds of PTO grants totaling $12,592.72 from the high school, South School, and East School PTOs, and voted to adjourn to executive session to continue collective bargaining discussions with food service workers.
