Hingham School Committee adopts new AI policy and approves meeting calendar

HINGHAM — May 19, 2025 — Hingham School Committee approves AI policy and hears METCO update at Foster School meeting. The board voted unanimously Monday to adopt a new artificial intelligence policy (JDNDG) designed to set broad principles while leaving operational details to district procedures, a structure that Policy Subcommittee Chair Ally Anderson said is intentional given how quickly the technology is changing. METCO Director Amy Jackson reported 43 students currently enrolled across six district schools, with total fiscal year 2025 program funding of $400,251 in state dollars plus $31,444 in supplementary grant funding and a $15,000 racial equity and inclusion grant — approximately $446,695 combined. The committee also approved a revised field trips policy authorizing the superintendent to approve out-of-state and overnight trips in time-sensitive situations without requiring a full board meeting, and set its 2025-2026 meeting calendar with a September 13 goal-setting workshop penciled in.
