Hingham open space panel advances Bickford property conservation deal amid funding challenge

Open Space Acquisition Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Hingham open space panel advances Bickford property conservation deal amid funding constraint. The Open Space Acquisition Committee moved forward on acquiring a conservation restriction on the Bickford property after Conservation Officer Shannon Palmer submitted a preliminary application to the Community Preservation Committee. The project faces a significant funding gap, as the expected acquisition cost is projected to exceed the CPC grant cap of three million dollars.

The committee identified multiple potential funding partners including the Water Company, additional state grants, and the municipalities of Hull and Cohasset. Member Jennifer Haggerty will pursue support from Wildlands Trust, with the final CPC application due September 30, 2026.
