Hingham's West Nile Virus Risk Rises to Moderate

Hingham's risk level for West Nile Virus climbed from Low to Moderate as of Thursday, August 6, prompting town officials to urge residents to guard against mosquito bites as the summer heat continues.

TOWN HALL

The town's West Nile Virus advisory, posted Thursday afternoon, notes the virus is most commonly spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito and that while it can infect people of all ages, some groups face greater risk of severe illness. Officials did not report any confirmed human cases in Hingham as of the announcement.

Separately, the town announced that crews will reconstruct curbing and sidewalk ramps on the north side of Town Hall, 210 Central Street, from Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14. The work will limit access to some parking during that window, and residents with business at Town Hall should plan for reduced spots on that side of the building.

Hingham also marked Purple Heart Day this week, honoring the town's status as a Purple Heart Community and recognizing local recipients of the award. Town Hall additionally reminded voters that applications for Vote by Mail ballots for the 2026 State Primary have gone out, and residents who have not received one can contact the town clerk's office or apply directly. The latest Wellness Wednesday flyer, with health and community programming for August, is also available on the town's website.
