Weir River Water System board approves meter-outreach program, AMI decision pending

HINGHAM — Weir River Water System board unanimously backs prior meeting minutes, hears meter-outreach plan. Superintendent Russell Tierney reported approximately 400 stuck meters generating $100,000-$300,000 in lost annual revenue and outlined a new postcard-and-door-tag program to notify customers at no cost. An Advanced Metering Infrastructure system decision is expected by the end of May, with two vendors narrowed down; one would require replacing 5,000-6,000 of the system's 12,500 existing radios.
Security-camera bids for the treatment plant and stockyard came in at $75,000, within budget. The HMLP billing transition is on track for July 1, 2026 launch, with rate increase implementation possibly delayed to August. Only seven lead service lines have been confirmed system-wide; finish water lead levels remain well below EPA and MassDEP standards.
