Water board proposes rate increase and capital assessment

HINGHAM — Water board presents proposed July 2026 rate increases to cover rising costs and infrastructure projects. The Board of Water Commissioners, joined by the Advisory Committee and the Weir River Water System Citizen Advisory Board, presented a proposed 3 percent rate increase and a new $65 annual capital debt service assessment for residential customers effective July 1, 2026. Russell Tierney, Superintendent of the Weir River Water System, explained that rising operational costs have driven the increases, which are expected to raise average residential water bills by approximately 8 percent.
The capital assessment will fund Turkey Hill tank and booster station projects and continue for 30 years.
