Traffic Committee reviews safety at High Street and Main Street intersections

HINGHAM — Traffic Committee audits Hingham's two highest-crash intersections. Police Chief David P. Jones led the committee through a field review of High Street at Ward and French streets, and Main Street at Cushing and South Pleasant streets on April 2, examining visibility constraints, speeding, and pedestrian safety.
At High Street, members discussed a potential 25 mph speed limit zone with feedback signage and vegetation trimming; at Main Street, a roundabout concept gained support over a traffic signal as a way to manage left-turn queues without constraining emergency vehicles. The committee deferred final design recommendations pending further evaluation by the Boston MPO and Toole Design consultants.
