HINGHAM — Traffic Committee audits Main Street corridor for safety and design improvements. The committee, led by Police Chief David P. Jones and including Town Engineer JR Frey, conducted a full-day safety audit on April 16, 2026, identifying speeding at downhill approaches to downtown, pedestrian conflicts at the Main Street and North Street intersection, and visibility constraints from parked vehicles and roadway width as primary concerns.
Consultants from the Boston MPO and Toole Design participated. Members reviewed conceptual improvements ranging from daylighting and traffic calming to long-term intersection redesigns and protected bicycle facilities, agreeing to pursue further evaluation and coordination with outside agencies on recommendations.
