Recreation Commission pauses Hersey Field accessibility work pending playground replacement.
Recreation Commission · Meeting of February 3, 2026
HINGHAM — Recreation Commission delays Hersey Field accessibility work due to wetlands. Chair Vicki Donlan and the board voted unanimously to defer the project after the Conservation Committee identified wetlands constraints; Director Mark Thorell will pause improvements until the playground, nearly 20 years old, is replaced. Guard rails at Hersey and Haley Field will proceed as planned.
Spring program registration opens March 6 at 10 a.m.; summer camp runs June 22 through August 28, with staggered registration starting March 3. Thorell proposed closing the community playground to public access 9 to 10:30 a.m. weekdays during summer to allow two daily camp groups use.
