Planning Board withdraws brew pub article, backs site plan review updates
Planning Board · Meeting of February 2, 2026
HINGHAM — Planning Board votes on three zoning articles for annual town meeting. The Board voted unanimously to withdraw Article BBB, a proposal to allow brew pubs and distilleries in four additional zoning districts, after Community Planning Director Emily Wentworth noted no applications have been received in the three districts where the use is already permitted and the Board of Health had raised concerns about liquor consumption in residential areas. The Board recommended adoption of Article CCC, a four-part Site Plan Review update that would streamline the permit process and authorize administrative review of minor site plan modifications, reducing the Board's workload by approximately 25 percent.
The Board also unanimously recommended adoption of Article DDD, rezoning the former North Fire Station at 230 North Street from Official and Open Space to Business A to encourage adaptive reuse of the historic Eugene Bickford-designed building.
