Light Board Secures Permit For $100 Million Grid Project

All Committee · Meeting of October 14, 2026

Hingham's all-committee meeting surfaced a newly permitted $100 million grid project and a looming special town meeting. Light Board Chair Laura Burns said the department received its state permit two weeks earlier, closing a two-year process, though a rate study with a consultant is still underway before the project goes to a future town meeting. School Building Committee Chair Angela Thettinga said three warrant articles, covering South Elementary and Plymouth River Elementary roof replacements and a Hingham High School design-acceleration measure, go before an October 29 special town meeting.

Affordable Housing Trust Chair Jack Falvey said an April warrant article on Lincoln School Apartments "fell short of the required two thirds by 3%," and the Community Preservation Committee faces seven applications totaling just over $3.5 million against roughly $2 million available.
