Hingham water company proposes 8 percent rate increase

Hingham water company proposes an 8 percent rate increase for capital projects. The Weir River Water System presented a proposed rate increase of 3 percent on water usage and a $65 annual capital debt service assessment for residential customers, effective July 1, 2026, to fund infrastructure improvements including a new water storage tank and booster station in Hull. Managing Director Russell Tierney reported the water system has annual revenue of approximately $14.26 million and expenses of approximately $14.2 million.
The Weir River Water System Citizens Advisory Board, chaired by David Anderson, approved the proposed rate increase.
