Conservation Commission approves phragmites removal at Porters Cove, denies patio plan change

HINGHAM — Conservation Commission advances phragmites restoration and Route 3A easements. The board unanimously approved an Order of Conditions for a three-year ecological restoration project at 9 Porters Cove Road covering approximately 18,450 square feet of Salt Marsh and Riverfront Area, with treatment of invasive phragmites to include herbicide application, monitoring, and annual reporting through 2028. In a second major action, the commission voted 6 to 0 (with Commissioner Philip Edmundson recused) to authorize permanent and temporary easements affecting Conservation Commission land as part of the Route 3A Improvement Project, including drainage, slope stabilization, and sidewalk work across four town locations.
The commission voted 5 to 0 to deny a minor plan change request for an elevated concrete patio at 322 Rockland Street, requiring instead an Amended Order of Conditions because the structure had not been presented at the original hearing and violates buffer-zone regulations.
