Building Committee approves $70,000 geothermal test boring; backs track location.

School Building Committee · Meeting of April 7, 2026

Hingham School Building Committee approves $70,000 geothermal test well contract. Chair Angela Thedinga and the six-member committee voted unanimously April 7 to authorize the not-to-exceed amount to allow immediate scheduling during optimal windows. The design team recommended locating geothermal wells at the track infield instead of the softball field outfield, citing extensive underground utilities from 2013 renovations and lower installation costs at the track site.

The committee also approved invoices from Dietz and Company for $5,809.20 and Gale for $9,885.00, and heard a presentation from Sustainability Coordinator Patricia Burke on the high school's role in municipal carbon emissions — accounting for 22 percent of all town building emissions — and available state and federal funding sources for electrification and renewable energy systems.
