HINGHAM — Attorney Murphy presented pending state zoning and housing bills to the Planning Board, which would substantially restrict local land-use authority if enacted. The Economic Development Bill would codify site plan review while eliminating local authority to impose aesthetic standards on development. A Senate proposal would require towns to allow duplexes as-of-right in residential districts without special permits.

A House bill would permit religious organizations to build housing up to 50 units per acre. The legislation is being finalized by July 31, 2026. Attorney Murphy advised residents to contact state legislators in opposition.
